Natural ingredients and sensitive skincare

Botanical ingredients appear in many skincare routines, from rich body butters to lightweight facial oils. If your skin is sensitive, the complete formula and your own experience matter more than whether an ingredient is described as natural.

Oils and butters in a nourishing routine

Shea butter is used in body butters and moisturisers for its rich texture. Jojoba oil appears in body and facial oils, while squalane is often chosen for a lighter-feeling oil texture.

Rosehip, coconut and avocado oils also feature in skincare. Their textures vary, so choose the finished product that suits how you like your skin to feel.

Familiar botanical extracts

Aloe vera, chamomile, calendula, cucumber, liquorice root and green tea are among the botanical ingredients you may see on skincare labels. Colloidal oatmeal also appears in some moisturising products. An ingredient’s presence does not mean every finished formula will suit every person.

Look at the whole formula

A product can contain both botanical ingredients and fragrance or essential oils. Check the full label for any ingredients you know you react to, rather than relying on a natural or sensitive-skin description alone.

Start simply

Introduce one new product at a time and follow the instructions on its packaging. If a product causes discomfort, stop using it. Ask a qualified healthcare professional about persistent skin concerns.
